Kindelan/Grant Architects is based on the Isle of Skye and was founded in 2012 by Architects Elena Kindelan and Ian Grant.
We work closely with our clients to make unique and beautiful houses, that respect their needs, the natural context, and the cultural history which surrounds them. We have a varied background in different architectural enterprises and can also bring our personal hands-on experiences of making buildings to bear on the demands facing our clients.
The briefing process, whereby the specific requirements of our clients and potential design solutions can be explored in depth, is critical to the success of every project. We offer a personal, collaborative service, which draws on our design experience and skills, as well as our clients’ own ideas, to create thoughtful, sensitive and highly individual solutions to site specific projects.
Through innovative interpretations of vernacular materials, architectural style, and building methods, we are committed to making modern, energy efficient, comfortable, and well-designed homes.
We aim to apply this ethos to projects of all sizes and types whether commissioned by individuals, businesses, or communities.
Elena Kindelan was educated as an architect in Spain and attracted by new trends in Scottish architecture, moved to Skye in 2005.
She was principal architect for “Skye Homes”, specialists in kit house building, from 2009 to 2012 when she co-founded Kindelan Grant to further explore new interpretations of vernacular form and materials in the design of contemporary energy efficient housing.
Senior Architect at award-winning practice Rural Design from 2014 to 2020, she currently balances her role as Partner at Kindelan Grant Architects with home-schooling her three children.
Elena is an architect registered with the Architect Registration Board to practice in the United Kingdom.
Ian Grant built “An Sgaileag” for himself and his wife in 2018 and draws on this experience in working with the practice’s clients to realise their own very personal projects.
