Kindelan/Grant was founded in 2012, by Elena Kindelan and Ian Grant.
We work with our clients to make beautiful “houses”, that respect their needs, the natural context, and the cultural history which surrounds them. Through new interpretations of vernacular materials, architectural style, and building methods, we are committed to making modern, energy efficient, comfortable, and well-designed homes.
We can offer a personal, collaborative service, which draws on our design experience and skills, as well as our clients’ own ideas, to create thoughtful, sensitive solutions to site specific projects. We are particularly interested in small projects which demand high quality, individual design.
Elena Kindelan was educated as an architect in Spain and attracted by new trends in Scottish architecture moved to Skye in 2005. She was principal architect for “Skye Homes”, specialists in kit house building, from 2009 to 2012 when she co-founded Kindelan/Grant to further explore new interpretations of vernacular form and materials in the design of contemporary energy efficient housing. Currently, she acts in an advisory capacity at Kindelan/Grant Architecture whilst home-schooling her three children, and is a senior architect in the award-winning practice “Rural Design”.
Elena is an Architect Member of the Architect Registration Board, Chartered Member of Royal Institute of British Architects and Chartered Member of Royal Institute of Architects Scotland.
Ian Grant gained a wide experience in manufacturing and engineering, before entering the field of architecture in 2001. He graduated from the University of Greenwich with a first class honours degree in architecture (RIBA Part 1) and spent three years at top London practice “Allies and Morrison” where he honed his design skills whilst studying for his Professional Diploma in Architecture (RIBA Part 2) at London Metropolitan University.
Ian has worked in the Highlands since 2005 for award-winning practices “Rural Design”, and “Dualchas”, and co-founded Kindelan/Grant with architect Elena Kindelan in 2012. He is currently enrolled with the University of Strathclyde and combines the day to day architectural business of Kindelan/Grant with preparation for the RIBA Examination in Professional Practice (Part 3).
